Alternate Timeline Adds Replay Value to Wolfenstein
Players have plenty of reason to play through again...

Ahead of the game's release on the 20th of this month, Wolfenstein: The New Order creative director Jens Matthies has revealed that players will be encouraged to replay the game once their campaign experience has drawn to a close thanks to the presence of an alternative time line which is opened up during the first play through. Speaking as part of a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) session, the developer said:

This game is exclusive single-player, but we’ve built in lots of replay value. Most notably is that the player makes a choice early on the outcome of which opens up an alternate time line which changes the vibe of the story. It’s recommended to do a second play through and see what would have happened if you chose differently.

I don’t want to give any spoilers, but it changes the vibe of the story to a degree and alters the gameplay somewhat. We think of it as an alternate ending, but instead of it just affecting the final cinematic, it affects the tone of the whole game a little bit.

When asked about how long it should take players to complete the campaign a single time, Matthies claimed that, shouldplayers explore and collect everything, they should be looking at somewhere in the region of 20 hours per play through.
