We previously reported that Bioshock was getting a really strange re-issue on iOS and now we've got more fuel to feed the fires of our discontent with a graphics comparison.
IGN has put together a video showing a comparison between the visuals for the original Bioshock game - which came out a full 7 years ago - and the all new iOS version. And the difference is more than a little telling.
Firstly, doesn't the original 'Shock look great? The shaders were revolutionary for the time and combined with proprietary flame and fluid tech to create something that deserved the attention it got in 97.
As for the iOS version, its just incredibly bland. I understand that its running on an iPad in this case and it has been fudged to also perform on an iPhone but the result can't help but disappoint. Just take a look at the muddy images during the dive to Rapture, and that's a moment which is essentially on the rails! You can also see numerous moments where the background has been fogged out and even with these concessions the game still looks decidedly chuggy from time to time.
This isn't to say that the iOS version will be utterly unplayable but when the remake misses so much of the texture and depth which people enjoyed then it runs the risk of damaging the reputation of an otherwise sterling brand.
Bioshock is coming to iOS in late summer 2014.
