bitSmith Games launches Kickstarter for weird smash 'em up FranknJohn
Irish indie developer bitSmith Games today launched its £30,000 Kickstarter campaign for its roguelike smash ‘em up, FranknJohn, which will be released on PC, Mac, and Linux.

FranknJohn is the failed creation of the scientist Dr Harmin, who happens to be a little on the mad side, and has a key weapon at its disposal, its head. Players will literally have to use their head to smash away the weird and wacky creatures that are found in the fun-house as they attempt to confront their creator.

Games such as Dark Souls, The Binding of Isaac and Zombies Ate My Neighbours are listed as inspiration, which gives a pretty good indication of what the game will be like. Loot and customisation plays a pretty big part with players able to swap out bodies and skullcaps, getting access to different bonuses and abilities as a result.

The Kickstarter campaign features plenty of pre-alpha footage, details about the game, and introduces us to the members of bitSmith Games. A successful campaign will see the team moving on to the game full time and building a community.
