Borderlands 2 Could Be Getting a Prequel

Borderlands 2 Could Be Getting a Prequel
Wasn't that Borderlands 1?

A report from website claims that Gearbox Software is working on a brand new Borderlands title - however it's not the next gen game that many have been anticipating, but rather a prequel to the sequel Borderlands 2. Confused? We don't blame you!

Whether or not the report is accurate, there's no shortage of information contained within, with the site claiming that players will be able to choose from four characters, as is par for the course with Borderlands, in Athena the Gladiator, Fragtrap (think Claptrap but with kick-ass weaponry), Nisha the Lawbringer and Wilhelm the Enforcer. All four are lieutenants of Handsome Jack, suggesting that we'll have a chance to see the other side of the story just before the events of Borderlands 2.

The game is set to take place predominantly on Pandoran moon Elpis, while an all new class of weaponry, Cryo,is set to be introduced for the first time, which will allow players to freeze their enemies. Interestingly, the game will take advantage of the reduced gravity on Elpis to change the gameplay mechanics by introducing navigation based around jetpacks.

While the news would definitely tie in with Gearbox studio head Randy Pitchford's claims that they're not working on a Borderlands 3 (technically, they wouldn't be), until there's an official announcement from the studio there's no way of knowing how accurate the report is. If it proves to be true, however, the game should launch later this year on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
