Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel Officially Confirmed

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel Officially Confirmed
The rumours were true! Borderlands 2 is getting a prequel...

Following reports earlier in the week that Borderlands studio Gearbox Software was working on a brand new iteration of the game, albeit one for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC rather than next-gen platforms, publisher 2K Gameshas confirmedthat the game is indeed in development, and it'll be called Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, which sounds about right given the team's penchant for slightly left-of-field humour.

Being developed in collaboration between 2K Australia and Gearbox, the game will feature four new playable characters, Athena, Wilhelm, Sherriff and a Claptrap robot who are all on Handsome Jack's payroll(just like the rumours claimed), and although it'll have more content than the original game, it'll be a little lighter than Borderlands 2 - although we're not complaining.

The game is set for release towards the end of this year and, sadly, saves from either of the two previous games won't be compatible, although given the new characters and off-world setting (you can expect to spend a lot of time floating around in space and in the low-gravity environments of one of Pandora's moons), that probably makes sense.

The Pre-Sequel will be the third major Borderlands release to hit in 2014, following the launch of the PlayStation Vita port of Borderlands 2 next month, and Telltale Games' episodic adventure series Tales from the Borderlands, which is expected to start rolling out this summer.
