The new Ford Focus ST took on its greatest challenge…. ITSELF!!! Kinda.

The Ford Focus ST made its debut today. But not content to simply debut with a press release and a few snaps, this new model had a point to prove at the Goodwood Festival of Speed… TO ITSELF!

So Ford and Sony Computer Entertainment staged a race, of sorts. In one corner you’d have the brad spanking new Ford Focus ST, as driven by Ben Collins, formerly known as The Stig on Top Gear. And in another corner sat vet gamer Krisztian Somodi, driving the exact same model, only in virtual form via Gran Turismo 6 for the PS3. Check out the footage below.

Speaking after the event, Ben Collins stated,

“Racing the new Focus ST against the virtual one was a first for me. I had no idea who was in the lead so I was ecstatic when I realised I’d won… The Focus ST has always been a great driver’s car but the new version is even more responsive and rewarding.”

Elsewhere, Krisztian Somodi lost rather graciously,

“It was a very close race and such a buzz competing against a real car and driver… The virtual Focus ST looks, feels and sounds just like the real thing. Gran Turismo 6 is very impressive.”

As unveilings go, it was pretty spectacular. And went a ways to proving, once and for all that real cars are more… real… than… virtual… I’m not really sure what it proved, okay! But it was a fun thing for Ford and Sony to do. So Kudos! The New Ford Focus ST is scheduled to appear in various dealerships from ‘early 2015’.
