Until Dawn is a horror title from Supermassive Games with a very familiar set up - some comely (do people use that word anymore?) teens go to an isolated cabin in the woods and are slowly picked off one by one.
Except, this time around you control what happens and decide who lives or dies. You'll get to play as multiple characters getting into sticky situations with creepy killers and you'll have to figure out how to get out unscathed. If that's what you want - sometimes it's actually fun to watch an annoying character perish.
The game has been around since before 2012 and was originally set to release on PS3 as a Move title. Thankfully they ditched the motion controls and skipped to the new console for even more impressive graphics and now the game is finally ready to take a bow. You'll be able to play Until Dawn on PS4 on the 28th of August 2015.
There's a new trailer to celebrate. And a new character played by Peter Stormare (Fargo, Armageddon). Check it out.
So that's the game.
The graphics certainly look lovely and real-life actors like Hayden Panettiere and Rami Malek are modelled with extreme care. It's looking like a grim and scary time but I can't help being skeptical about how it actually plays. Unless there's a good amount of freedom players will feel very constrained and there's a lot less variety possible here than in similar projects like Heavy Rain and Beyond Two Souls.
Maybe the game has loads of fun twists and turns, we'll just have to wait and see.
Until Dawn hits PS4 on the 28th of August 2014.
