EA has removed Crysis 2 from the digital distribution platform Steam. This comes in the wake of the launch of EA’s own digital store, Origin, which allows users to download titles directly to their hard drive.
Bioware has also confirmed that its upcoming release, Star Wars: The Old Republic, will be exclusively sold on Origin. This week’s release of Alice: Madness Returns has not been listed on Steam, but is available on platforms such as Origin and Direct2Drive.
The EA Downloader was EA’s original attempt at the digital distribution channel. It launced in 2005, but failed to win consumers over. A rejuvenated EA Store was put in its place in 2007. Origin is the latest rebrand of the platform and allows users to purchase games, chat with friends and play games on other PCs when on the go.
