Despite sneaking up on me like a tricksey thing Shadow of Mordor has already become one of my favourite games of 2014. The graphics are great and the nemesis system actually does what its supposed to but the thing I most enjoy is traversing the world easily and killing great amounts of nasty Orc-ses.
Seriously, if you got at all frustrated with the early part of the game, you owe it to yourself to dive back in. Once you've got some super-powers going on (chain shadow kill FTW!) you'll be able to decimate your foes. There's a mixture of real power and actual skill going on here which is very delicious.
And now there's another reason to go back and play it. A photo mode has just been added which lets you pause the action at any time and create spectacular, DOF-ridden shots of just how much death you're dealing out to something that Tolkien would likely never have dreamed up.
Here's a vid from the developers telling you how it works.
That's very cool indeed. I'm totally going to be freezing during horrible kills and trying to see if I can catch someone making a duck face.
Photo mode is now available for free on PS4, Xbox One and PC versions of Shadow of Mordor. The Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game don't launch til the 18th of November.
