Destruction derby events are making a comeback.
The DiRT franchise has certainly undergone a drastic change from its roots as a rallying sim as the latest batch of screenshots show. Destruction Derby is being brought back with a bang by DiRT Showdown. The most recent trailer highlights the intense fear as drivers cross an intersection on the 8-ball tracks, followed by the inevitable crunch of metal as multiple vehicles collide and go flying.
There will be three broad events featured in the title: full contact races, demolition derby events and Hoonigan events which involve pulling off thrilling stunts to wow the captive audience. DiRT Showdown promises 50 different races across four championships on tracks dotted all over the world. The game will feature split-screen multiplayer, eight-player online racing and quick fire party games.
This is definitely a game that will be introduced with a warning not to try this at home. DiRT Showdown will put the peddle to the metal in May 2012 on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
