Videogamer series don't much more iconic than Doom - the first person shooter which helped to make the genre popular all the way back in 1993. The franchise has been quiet for a long time since 2004's Doom 3, but Doom 4 is right on the horizon.
It's a major reboot and one which has been in development for a long time at id Software. In fact it was trashed completely with development starting from scratch a few years ago and is now inching towards completion. We haven't heard any official annoucement of a release date yet but the early gameplay demos look excellent and there was a closed beta in late 2015.
Now a listing on Amazon France has some news which suggests the game could launch on the 30th of June 2016.
The listing has since been changed to the 31st of December 2016, suggesting that this might merely have been a placeholder which would be sad news indeed. In fact it would be worse news if the game actually might not manage to make a 2016 release date at all. So we're going to go ahead and assume that Doom will be in our sweaty hands within six months.
