Doom is coming.

Yep that's another title in the long running franchise which first arrived way, way, way back in 1993.

Developers id Software have gone back to basics for a story which takes the player to Hell as a Space Marine but things haven't quite remained the same as you can tell from this latest video which focusses on various elements of the single player campaign.

You can learn about how to tweak your character in pretty significant ways and also just how cool the guns are going to look.

The detailing on those weapons is pretty incredible, and it's great to hear one of the developers admit that Doom is pretty much all about shooting.

It turns out there are complexities here though, including an overuse of a reference to how the game is like Chess. It really isn't. But there are a large variety of enemies who repond better to different kinds of weapons and that should add an extra layer of strategy to the slaughter.

There will also be ways to upgrade the weapons for alternative fire modes and even tweaks to made to how your character plays - making them faster or tougher and somehow even more badass. Those glory kills are also still very much in evidence, and we can't wait to give them a try.

All things considered, this really does look like much more than a cash grab on the part of id and Bethesda, with a large single player mode and a unique multiplayer, plus a map editor for people who are into that sort of thing.

Doom is coming on the 13th of May, 2016.
