Double Fine unlikely to make another Monkey Island

Double Fine unlikely to make another Monkey Island

Double Fine recently celebrated the successful crowdfunding of Psychonauts 2, but that isn’t the first classic title that the developer has re-explored.

Previously, the developer released remasters of LucasArts games, including Grim Fandango, Day of the Tentacle and Full Throttle. But one series looks like it will remain unattainable.

Double Fine’s Tim Schafer took part in a Reddit AMA and admitted that the team is unlikely to be able to regain the rights to the Monkey Island series. When asked what the chances were that Double Fine could get the rights to Monkey Island, Schafer responded, “Very, very low.”

But it’s not all doom and gloom for Double Fine fans. “Maybe we'll make up something new you like!" Schafer added. Plus, there is Psychonauts 2 to look forward to, although that is a long way off.
