Driveclub may well go down as one of the most high profile of the next gen delay victims, but it looks as though players' waiting for a release date and some concrete information on the game could be about to come to an end, with Sony saying in a statement this week that it looks forward to sharing information in the weeks ahead.
Originally planned for release alongside the PlayStation 4 back in November, and then pushed into early 2014 with a view to making the console's launch in February, the game currently has no official ETA, and with rumours of a troubled development process coupled with the departure of senior Evolution Studios staff, things have been looking less than rosy for the game in recent weeks.
Nevertheless, Sony's announcement has put a relatively positive spin on things, and it looks as though we'll be finding out a lot more about the racer very shortly:
Development of Driveclub on PS4 is going from strength to strength. The announced studio changes across WWS yesterday have not affected the development of Driveclub or the Driveclub team,” Sony went on, “which has always had great direction and continues to do so. We have full confidence that the game will deliver on its PS4 promise to be the first truly socially connected racing title and we are very pleased and excited by the calibre of work from Evolution Studios.
The progress being made on the game is spectacular, so we’re looking forward to sharing an update on development, release date and videos of the game in action in the weeks to come. We thank you for your patience and assure you, it will be worth the wait.
The promise of "spectacular" progress is certainly encouraging, but we're going to wait too see how things are shaping up for ourselves before getting too excited (again)...
