Fallout 4 was finally announced yesterday, but it may be out sooner than many expected. According to retailers, Fallout 4 will be out this year.
It’s likely that the retailers are just using 2015 as a placeholder. A release date this year would drum up more interest and pre-orders than a more distant one. But Bethesda’s own online store had Fallout 4 listed as TBC 2015, before changing it to just TBC.
A Reddit post from last year also detailed Bethesda’s planned timeline. According to someone who is alleged to be a disgruntled ex-Bethesda employee, Fallout 4 will be released in October 2015 on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
The poster was initially dismissed as a troll, but was correct on a number of points. That doesn’t mean that they have the release date right, but it’s interesting speculation nonetheless.
Six months of promotion is almost unheard of nowadays, but perhaps Bethesda feels that fans are excited enough. Plus, the longer a game is announced in advance of its release, the more likely that fans will get burned out, misled, or that it’ll be delayed, as we’ve seen so far this console generation.
We’re likely to find out an official release date during Bethesda’s E3 conference on June 14th.
