Firewatch is a gorgeous game from some of the creative mind behind The Walking Dead video game series and it's managed to be a real independent success.
The title from Campo Santo studios was published by Panic inc and was their first full console game. Thanks to strong word of mouth and excellent reviews, it managed to sell a massive 500,000 copies in its first month alone. That's a huge figure, and Panic confirmed that they made back their significant investment in the project within 24 hours of release.
There are improvements still to come for the first person adventure game, which is about a fire spotter in the American wilderness in the mid 1980s. The developers are continuing to tweak the code to deliver the best experience possible for players as they navigate the mystery of what is going on in the park, mostly through conversations with your unseen supervisor.
Another unique aspect of Firewatch was the in-game disposable camera which users could snap away with while walking around the gorgeous landscapes. At the end of your playthrough, it was possible to download you own unique images and also send away for real-life printed photographs - a phyiscal memento from your digital memory.
