In August 2014, a game called Five Nights at Freddy's appeared on PC. It was about a lone security guard working in a pizza restaurant at night, tasked with keeping an eye on the roaming animatronic animals via security cameras. Lose sight of one for long enough and it might manage to seek you out and murder you...
It's a stripped down survival horror which has taken the gaming world by storm, coming onto Android and iOS and producing two sequels in just a few short months. It has also spawned many enjoyable Let's Play videos thanks to its jump scares.
We suspect those kids wouldn't last very long in a horror film either.
If you thought the nightmare was over, think again as we've just got word that Five Nights at Freddy's 4: The Final Chapter is already in the works. And it has a release date of the 31st of October - a fittingly scary night to release a horror game. With the third game coming out in March 2015, that means episode 4 will have the longest time in development by far. Though its still just seven months, which is pretty impressive.
Five Nights at Freddy's is the brainchild of Scott Cawthon, who made it in reaction to someone saying his previous game was unintentionally scary. We bet they regret that now. And there's also a film adaptation of the game in the works, from Warner Bros and the writer of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. So that's going to be terrible.
You can get the previous three games on PC, iOS and Android now.
