Former Naughty Dog Creative Director Amy Hennig, who played a pivotal role in the huge success of the Uncharted franchise, has been confirmed to have taken up a new position with Visceral Games, and is to serve as Creative Director on the studios' forthcoming Star Wars title.
Announced today on the official Electronic Arts blog by Visceral Games general manager Steve Papoutsis, the studio beat out plenty of competition to land Hennig, who is seen by many as being one of the most talented creative directors in the industry right now. In the statement Papoutsis said:
Over the last few weeks, Amy and I have spent a lot of time talking about what her first project would be.There are a lot of different directions we could have gone, but I could sense that what really excited her about this opportunity (because let's face it, we weren't the only ones knocking at her door) was Star Wars. Amy's a huge fan. We happen to be making a Star Wars game. Just thinking about the possibilities made both of us even more excited about having her join the team.
[I have]lways admired her approach to creative development - focusing on nailing down the soul of a game first, and then making sure the writing, the gameplay, the design and the art comes together to form a unified, interactive experience for the player.
Details have been thin on the ground regarding the Star Wars project Visceral is working on, but the addition of Hennig will no doubt mean great things for the title, and we're hopeful we'll have some more information in the near future.
