From Software Taken Over
Dark Souls II developer acquired by Kadokawa

From Software, the developer behind games including Demon's Souls, Dark Souls and Dark Souls II, has been taken over by Japanese publisher Kadokawa according to a report on website Siliconera. The takeover is said to amount to around 80% of the company's shares, although no figures have been released relating to total cost.According to the report, it looks likely that the deal will be finalized and become official on May 21st.

What this means for fans of From Software's punishing franchises remains to be seen, but it's unlikely that Kadokawa will make too many changes behind the scenes to a studio that has proven to be incredibly successful since it stromed to prominence thanks to Demon's Souls.

From has always been about more than just that franchise however, despite its modern day successes, and it's also responsible for titles like Tenchu and Armored Core.

Although little known outside Japan, publisher Kadokawa has handled the launches of several high-profile titles in Japan, including Sude51's Lollipop Chainsaw.
