Counterspy is the debut game from a new company called Dynamighty. And it looks a little bit brilliant.
That might be down to the fact that there are former LucasArts folks involved, or the presence on the team of Mark Holmes. He used to work at Pixar and was behind the conceptual design of The Incredibles - still one of the company's finest achievements.
The influence of The Incredibles is strong in Counterspy, with stylised art that evokes the kind of swinging sixties setting. In this side scrolling stealth and action title you'll act as a spy, sneaking around and trying to undermine the activities of two warring superpowers to ensure nothing less than the survival of the human race.
The company cites influence from titles like Flashback, Metroid and the more recent Shadow Complex. All good things and that certainly suggests there will be unlockable extras and back tracking. Something which can be fun if handled right. Here's the trailer.
It already looks great, but there's more good news. Not only will the game retail for just $14.99 but it's also another of Sony's cross buy titles. So any purchase will unlock it on PS3, PS4 and Vita. Cross save means you can easily sync your progress to any platform and there's also mention of a mobile/tablet version - though we don't yet know how that will play.
Dynamighty promises plenty of unlockables and some online functionality so you can see your friends progress in game. By finding their dead body.
Counterspy launches on PS3, PS4 and Vita on the 19th of August in the US and August 20th in Europe.
