That open source, kickstarted android based games console,
Ouya (that has everyone frothing at the mouth) has freely admitted financial backing wasn’t the primary motivation for approaching
Kickstarter.
The project’s founder, Julie Uhrman recently suggested to
Develop that gauging the potential interest of gamers, and subsequent publicity, was the listing’s real goal.
"It is unbelievable validation where gamers really demonstrate their enthusiasm with for what we're doing with dollars, and those numbers demonstrate that there is a market."
Ouya’s original target of $950,000 was smashed within hours. The project’s investment total, to date, rests at approximately $5m. Uhrman admitted,
"We're looking for additional funds of money but more importantly we wanted to take it to
Kickstarter regardless, because
Kickstarter will give us the support we need from the gamers and developers to get additional content on the devices and bring additional partners to us,"
"We have a lot of support from the investor and entrepreneur community," she told develop. "We raised money initially from individual investors."
