Still going to be keeping himself busy.
The lead writer on projects such as
Mass Effect 1 and
Star Wars: The Knights of the Old Republic,
Drew Karpyshyn, has decided to hang up his keyboard. He has taken the decision to retire from
BioWare and the video games industry. Instead, he plans to focus on writing books, screenplays and his first book in an original fantasy series titled
Children of Fire.
Karpyshyn broke the news on his
personal website and added that it was his decision and that there are no hard feelings about the decision. He added that BioWare will not suffer in his absence. His post read, “I know going forward that BioWare will continue to live up to its well deserved reputation for making the best story-driven games in the industry. The story and dialogue in any BioWare game is the result of an entire team of writers working together, and I often felt I received an excessive amount of the credit for the games we created.”
It is a humble exit for a man who has been involved at the sharp end of the gaming industry for a number of years. In his career he has worked upon titles such as
Star Wars: The Old Republic,
Baldur's Gate 2but stepped away from
Mass Effect 2 mid-way through the project. He has also occupied himself with Mass Effect novels, Knights of the Old Republic stories and other Star Wars novels.
