Merlin game enters open beta
TV show tie-in hits the social network.
Merlin: The Game is now available to play in open beta from the comfort of your browser. The Facebook game is a tie-in with the Merlin TV show and is designed with the core values of the show in mind. It allows players and six of their friends to fight off hordes of monsters, complete quests and explore the world. Players will be able to level up and customise their character as they see fit with new clothing and weaponry on offer as players progress.

Bossa Studios has been working on the game for the best part of a year and decided to share some trivia and behind-the-scenes knowledge to showcase how they kept themselves sane, entertained themselves and how certain features evolved over time. We particularly like the fact that Monty Python was featured in the early stages of the game as a placeholder.

Bossa Studios’ highlights from the past year:
  • The name 'Leo' (one of our developers) has appeared in the game in 52 different places during development. 8 of which are currently still in the live game.
  • The most redesigned part of the game was Merlin's ears.
  • The lyrics for The Knights of the Round Table from Monty Python and the Holy Grail were used as placeholder text during alpha stage.
  • The very first design decision on maximum size of maps was 10x10. Now we have some buildings in the hub bigger than 10x10.
  • During the making of Merlin the team consumed enough pizza to cover a tennis court.

The game is now available to play on via Facebook, while more information about the game can be found on its website.
