NES Classic Mini will have 30 games in the box – And that's it

Nintendo announced The Classic Mini, a smaller NES-themed console, which will come with 30 games. While that’s a substantial number of games, you won’t be able to purchase any more for it, nor will it be able to connect to the internet to download digital releases.

It’s also worth noting that while it looks the part, you won’t be able to play NES games you currently own. The chamber lid is purely for show and doesn’t open. And if you happen to still own an old controller, you won’t be able to use that either as the system uses a different connector.

Nintendo says that the games were chosen “to provide a diverse mix of popular and recognisable NES games that appeal to a wide variety of players. Everyone should be able to find multiple games to enjoy.”

It added that these games will “provide a wide variety of top-quality, long-lasting game-play experiences.”

Naturally, there has been speculation as to whether or not we’ll see mini versions of other consoles. However, Nintendo is keeping its cards close to its chest.

The Classic Mini will play:

  • Balloon Fight™
  • Castlevania™
  • Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest™
  • Donkey Kong™
  • Donkey Kong Jr. ™
  • Dr. Mario™
  • Excitebike™
  • Galaga™
  • Ice Climber™
  • Kid Icarus™
  • Kirby’s Adventure™
  • Mario Bros. ™
  • MEGA MAN® 2
  • Metroid™
  • PAC-MAN™
  • Punch-Out!! ™ Featuring Mr. Dream
  • StarTropics™
  • SUPER C™
  • Super Mario Bros.™
  • Super Mario Bros. ™ 2
  • Super Mario Bros. ™ 3
  • The Legend of Zelda™
  • Zelda II: The Adventure of Link™
