In this recent batch of gameplay footage from Gamespot, we can see Dreadnought in all its glorious, screen filling majesty. From the creators of Spec Ops: The Line (who are simultaneously developing Dead Island 2) comes a flight simulator that FINALLY puts you in command of a massive, kilometre long hunk of lasers and death. Enough of your piddle wee Starfighters, says I!
Yager Development seem to have gotten around the often needlessly complex control schemes of many capital ship simulators by treating Dreadnought like a great big lumbering, overpowered third person shooter. It’s inspired really, one stick is your helmsman, the other your gunner and the face buttons issue commands to your bridge crew. It seems to work quite well in the footage below, while a handful of deeper features add complexity to the formula.
Summoning an action wheel will let you, the intrepid captain order extra power into the shields, engines or weapons systems as the situation demands. A handful of starfox-esque automatically triggered evasive manoeuvres can be called upon in a tricky situation while a striking warp jump should chuck you instantaneously across the map.
Dreadnought ships to windows at some stage in 2015 and frankly, we can’t wait.
