Nintendo EAD has officially confirmed that the studio is working on a brand new Mario game, however they aren't yet willing to say what platform the game will be on.
The last major instalment in the Mario series was the spectacularly awesome Super Mario 3D World, which released in November of last year on the Wii U. That followed New Super Mario Bros. U on Wii U and New Super Mario Bros. 2 on 3DS, so it's not like there's been a shortage of titles released in the past few years, but could this latest title be the much-anticipated spiritual follow-up to Super Mario Galaxy? Hopefully!
Speaking with Edge, producer Yoshiaki Koizimi confirmed the game's development, saying:
That’s still a secret. I can tell you, though, that we’ve already started approaching our next challenge. [If it's for the Wii U we]might need to make even more use of the GamePad.There’s still a lot more room for discovery and invention, and we’ll continue to propose new and exciting game mechanics going into the future.
