While Riddick the movie may be an overcooked pile of underperforming action junk, that's not about to stop star Vin Diesel from keeping the franchise going - by any means necessary.
And the next step in that attempt at world domination is a mobile game - Riddick: The Merc Files.
Diesel is no stranger to interactive entertainment - the star set up his own development studio called Tigon in 2002 which has already worked on the surprisingly decent Escape from Butcher Bay and remake/sequel Escape from Dark Athena. And it's far from coincidental that both games star the Vin himself.
The Merc Files is quite the departure, a third person stealth game with simplified mechanics for a touch screen. In fact it looks a bit like a very basic Manhunt, though it's probably a little less bloodthirsty. Check out the teaser trailer.
It's not the worst looking mobile game I've ever seen, though the cut scenes made me hope that it might play a little more like Shank. The game was developed in collaboration with Swedish company Gaming Corps who promise stealth action and all out shooter gameplay, depending on how good you are at hiding bodies. The game will also be expanded with new levels and content to provide a fresh challenge to players.
Riddick: The Merc Files is coming to iOS on Friday September 20th. No word on an Android release yet.
