The Shenmue series went the way of the dodo back in the early 2000's after rising costs and falling sales but an end of Ryo's adventure practically before it had begun. More than a decade later and with the help of the power of Kickstarter, it was reborn, with a full sequel set for release at some point in the next few years.
Now we've got a tiny update on the progress of the game, with a couple of screenshots. Here's how it's looking.
The back of Ryo's head certainly looks nice, and it seems like we're going to be spending a good amount of time with Shenhua - who we last saw during the wonderfully closing chapter of Shenmue II back in 2001. The graphics may not look like the absolutely state of the art but this is work in progress material and, most importantly, it's actually a sign that development is progressing on Shemue III.
The Kickstarter for Shenmue III picked up a massive $6.3 million back in July 2015. The proposed release date is December 2018, so we'll have to wait and see if that happens.
