EA Sports has today made the announcement that NHL 15 will be launching later this year, and it'll mark the first appearance of the hockey sim on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, following last year's curious decision to skip a release on the consoles, which launched in November.
The game will receive a dramatic overhaul of its presentation engine, with the new NBC Sports Game Day Presentation system taking over from the previous effort, while hockey fans can look forward to being serenaded by the voices of Eddie Olczy and Mike Emrick in the commentary box, with TSN's Ray Ferraro occasionally jumping in with some rink-side analysis.
In the announcement, which was accompanied by a teaser trailer (which you can view below), Electronic Arts gave us the first hints of what we can expect from the new title's gameplay, including brand new real-world physics that'll apply to both the puck and every player on the ice, brand new player models and a new simulated crowd that's made up of around 9,000 individually modelled characers.
As usual, there'll be a public vote to see who makes it to the cover of the game this year, with eight players to choose from. Gamers can select their favourite by hashtagging #NHL15 and the name of their choice. The options, as well as the relevant hashtags can be found below:
