Nintendo showcases 3DS offerings at E3
Nintendo’s main presentation was firmly focused on the Wii-U, but 3DS fans weren’t to be ignored. The company hosted another presentation to showcase some of the games being brought to the system in the near future. Pre-E3 rumours were temporarily put to rest as Nintendo did not show or mention the possibility of a larger 3DS.

Castlevania Lords of Shadow: Mirror of Fate is set to give the 3DS a slightly darker image. The game will star Trevor Belmont and will be heavily story driven. The trailer looks impressive to say the least. It is an extension of the one shown during the main presentation, but people were left wanting more. Nintendo also confirmed that the title will be released this autumn.

You would think that Luigi would stop wandering around and into mysterious mansions on dark and stormy nights. Thankfully, for fans of the Luigi’s Mansion series, he has not. Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon will pit Luigi against a variety of ghosts and ghouls. Poor guy! Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon has been given a “holiday season” release period. The title will be available in retail stores, but also as a digital title from the eShop.

Paper Mario Sticker Star looks like a quirky title that should appeal to the collector in all of us. Stickers can be used in combat to stomp, slice and dice, or set enemies on fire (all in typical Mario fashion of course). Unfortunately, this title has also been given the rather vague “holiday season” release period. At least we won’t be short of potential Christmas present ideas.

Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance was briefly touched upon, but had already been covered by Nintendo in its press conference. The title will support the Circle Pad Pro, and will add new features like slow motion finishing moves and reality shift (quick time events).

Likewise, Scribblenauts Unlimited was showcased briefly. The puzzles will not be episodic but part of a larger, open world. Its trailer is also relatively short, but explains the core story of the game and some of the new features. Players will be able to explore the world, and even make use of Street Pass to discover solutions that they may not have thought of.

Third party games such as Lego Batman 2: DC Superheroes, Transformers Prime The Game, Rabbids Rumble and Heroes of Ruin were showcased as part of a montage reel. Thankfully, Nintendo later released some trailers.

If you’re a fan of Pokemon, you may be pleased to hear that Pokemon Black/White 2 is on the way. The official trailer has not been released just yet unfortunately. No release date was given, but we were reminded that it’s only a few months away. Could we be looking at another “holiday season” release?

New Super Mario Bros. 2 was used to close the show. The emphasis is on coin-collecting, and there will be more opportunities than ever to do so. Players can create extra coins by using powerups or using them in particular ways. These coins can then be used to unlock the new competitive mini-game, Coin Rush Mode. Naturally, coins can also be put towards additional lives. New Super Mario Bros. 2 will allow players to complete the entire single player campaign with the help of a friend…So, co-op then? Like previous Mario titles where friends could join in, each player can help or hinder the other. Considering the amount of coins on offer, greed could take over. New Super Mario Bros. 2 will be available on August 19th as a retail copy or a digital download.
