On the 3rd of December 1994, a gaming milestone was reached with the Japanese launch of the original PlayStation home console.
Practically every home has at least one PlayStation now but 20 years ago it was seen as a massive gamble by a company better known for its other electronic endeavors. But the rest of the tale is now known, as it quickly became one of the defining systems of the era.
2 decades have passed, with three other major hardware launches and numerous variations as well as millions of users spending countless hours with some of the best games ever made. It's a major achievement, and Sony wants to mark it with something truly special.
Behold the 20th Anniversary Edition PS4!
It looks like the original PlayStation! Check out that grey colour and the works that's been done to give the DualShock 4 controller a retro feel. It's very cool indeed - it even comes with a stand for some kick-ass vertical action!
This version of the PS4 will have an extremely limited run - just 12,300 have been made (reflecting the original release date) and they'll retail for €499. More importantly, you won't be able to just pick these up at your local shop, with Sony confirming availability details in the coming weeks.
More as we get it.
