Pokemon X and Y Sells More Than 12 Million Copies
Now the fastest selling 3DS game...

Nintendo has announced that Pokemon X and Pokemon Y have now sold in excess of 12 million copies combined, making them the fastest selling game on the handheld system.

Originally released back in October of 2013, the games have proven to be hugely successful among fans of the long-running franchise and newcomers alike, and a recent initiative that saw players who registered a 3DS and several select titles eligible to download a copy of one of the versions free of charge will certainly have done no harm in terms of intstalled user base - however whether or not Nintendo is factoring in those free downloads as part of the sales figures is unknown.

To compare X and Y's 12 million to other games in the series, it still sits behind Diamond and Pearl (17.6m), Ruby and Saphire (16.2m), Black and White (15.42m) and HeartGold and SoulSilver (12.6m), but should at least pass the latter in the near future.
