The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt isn't out in the wild just yet, the game is set for release around the world on the 19th of May. Unless you were one of the lucky sods who managed to bag a copy early.
If you weren't, your best bet for being ready to play right when the game activates is definitely a digital purchase, so you don't have to do that horrible thing where you have to be outside and potentially catch a sniffle.
And we've got good news on that front - you can pre-load the files for Wild Hunt on PC right now using Steam and GOG.
Pre-loading means you can download the bulk of the data which the game will need ahead of time. It helps to deal with the server load which inevitably comes around the launch of a major release and means you can be ready to go almost immediately, once a tiny update file has been nabbed from the server.
The game officially releases on the 19th of May but with a global launch that means different things to different people. Here are the actual times it will unlock on digital services:
May 18th, 4.00 pm PT (Los Angeles)
May 18th, 7.00 pm ET (New York)
May 19th, 00.00 am BT (London)
May 19th, 2.00 am UT (Moscow)
May 19th, 8.00 am JT (Tokyo)
What's more, PC is undoubtedly the cheapest way to play The Witcher 3. While new-gen console versions could cost as much as €70, you can get the game on GOG right now for just €43.79. That's a 27 percent saving in the run up to release, and the Steam version is fixed at €49.99.
If you are planning on picking up the game on PC, do be aware it needs a bit of a monster machine to run smoothly. Because there would be nothing worse than spending hours downloading and installing a game to find out it runs at 5 frames a second! See the minimum specs here.
The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt is coming to PC, PS4 and Xbox One on the 19th of May 2015.
