One of the best features of the PlayStation 3 was the ability to play videos simply by plugging in an external hard drive or even just a USB stick. That functionality sadly didn't make the transition to the PS4, but that could be about to change.
Media Playback has been rumoured for awhile on the PS4, mostly because it's a feature that any user would like to see implemented. Now a tipster has suggested that the next major firmware update could finally let us play our videos once again.
Tidux (who has leaked reliable info before) is under the impression that other PS3 functionality could be added as well - quite what we don't know. Of course it remains to be seen exactly what file formats the playback will support, something which could open Sony up to more abuse from fans.
Shortly after this, Sony released the 1.74 PS4 firmware update which basically just mentioned more 'stability updates,' something we've seen quite a bit from the company. We'll have to wait until the full 1.8 update for these new features. Hopefully.
