Doom 3 is most definitely a thing, and it looks like we're going to find out a lot more about it come E3 time in the US this June.
But before all that, a video has emerged which shows an early version of the game which was cancelled in 2011 when it didn't reach the high standards of the developers. Thee's some gameplay footage here and a good amount of CG which was produced by the talented folks at Blur.
That's not a lot to go on but it certainly feels different to the Doom games released to date, with more of a post apocalyptic wasteland feel akin to something like Fallout or Metro. That's not necessarily a bad thing - Doom can be whatever it likes and the story was never really that important to the franchise - but there is a lack of the shooting of nasty demon things, which we definitely want to see in a Doom game.
id Software went back to the drawing board on the game, spurred on a bit by the perceived failure of previous title Rage, and what we'll see in the future is going to be a different thing entirely. As you might guess from what the company is putting forward in this brief teaser.
The new Doom will be revealed at E3 on the 14th of June 2015.
