If you've missed old school platform games, you'll want to check out Shovel Knight.
It's a 2D side-scrolling bash and jumper, with gloriously recreated 8-bit graphics which will do nothing to stretch the specs of even the most lowly home entertainment system. Mostly you'll jump around and hit things with your shovel, while trying to collect as much treasure as you can before facing off against some evil bosses. And it looks a bit like this.
Just look at the HUD design, the sprites - they're actually sprites! The game has already released on PC, WiiU and the 3DS to rave reviews, with some outlets saying it was one of the best games of 2014 and everyone delighting in its mixture of nostalgia and properly fun and challenging gameplay. And now, even more people can get in on the action as the game releases on the PS3, PS4 and PS Vita this week - April 22nd in Ireland. Shovel Knight will also be coming to Xbox One, with the release date set for the week of the 27th of April.
If you've got a PC you can get Shovel Knight right now for €14.99 over on Steam.
