Star of popular TV show Star Trek: The Next Generation and X-Men, Sir Patrick Stewart, is providing vocal talent for the upcoming The War of the Worlds game. The game is based on the classic novel by H.G. Wells and follows one man’s experience in 1950s London during a decimating alien invasion.
The War of the Worlds is retold as a single player, 2D action-adventure. The gameplay narrative parallels the timeline and events from the 1953 movie adaptation, but introduces a new story arc, characters, locations, and sub-plots.
Sir Patrick Stewart is excited about the project. He says that he was fascinated by the movie, which has stuck with him since he was a child. “As a young boy, I remember watching the The War of the Worlds so many times I was quoting the lines,” said Stewart.
Sir Patrick Stewart is experienced in providing vocal talent at this point in his career. He has worked on TV and animated film projects such as American Dad, Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, Chicken Little and The Prince of Egypt. He is no stranger to video games either having voiced a series of Star Trek games, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone to name a few.
Other Ocean Interactive will release The War of the Worlds as a digital download. It will be available on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network later in 2011.
