Big Band is a "high risk, high reward" type of character. He is the second of five characters to be released as DLC. Big Band was created in result of an extremely successful crowdfunding campaign by developer Lab Zero Games from last year that raised almost $830,000 towards the game.
The first DLC character; Squigly, and all eight characters from the base game are female. Big Band is a former cop whom, after being injured from a brutal attack, was rebuilt with a huge mechanical body. What sets him apart, aside from gender and body type, is that he is able to parry attacks. Although he will still take some damage, successfully parrying attacks will open up new techniques during battles.
The Big Band DLC will be available for free for a limited time. His DLC also includes a new story mode, tutorials, and stage. It will be released on PC and PlayStation 3 on April 22. The Xbox 360 version of the DLC is still in Microsoft's certification process, so we won't get an Xbox 360 release date from Lab Zero until sometime next week at the earliest.
Skullgirls was released back in 2012 on the Xbox Live Arcade and Playstation Network. The game was removed from both of the services late last year after publisher Konami severed ties with Lab Zero Studios.
Skullgirls was rereleased as Skullgirls Encore this past February to joy of all the fans. All former Skullgirls owners were given free copies of the new game.
