Well therein lies the problem, while Sonicand Sega All Stars Racing is certainly a decent game, it’s far from excellent. It does everything it should do to a decent enough standard, but it never quite attains the heights of Mario Kart, or even Diddy Kong Racing.
The power-ups are sorely lacking in imagination, the tracks are uninspired and even the 20 available characters can’t prevent the game from starting to feel old pretty quick... which is hardly surprising when you consider how wholesale things have been lifted from Nintendo’s flagship racer. It’s almost laughable how much this game wants to be Mario Kart, but unfortunately it fails by quite a bit.
If you’ve got a Wii or DS, then you have absolutely no need for this game at all – just get yourself a copy of Mario Kart. For owners of other systems though, it might be worth a look to fill the void left by the slew of more serious racers.
