A group of speed runners have raised almost $85,000, although this amount changes rapidly, in two days for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. The organisation was founded to saves lives through cancer research. The players aimed to raise $100,000 for the charity, but look set to smash that aim considering they will be continuing their campaign until Sunday and will
stream their record attempts all week.Donations at particular points in time enter viewers into draws for a variety of prizes.
The group is attempting to complete over 115 games ranging from titles in the Mega Man or Mario series to the likes of Skyrim, Portal 2, and Batman: Arkham City, along with lesser known “awesome games” such as Skyblazer. The charity drive will be streamed on the
Speed Demos Archive website. The full schedule can be found
here, and includes details on special donation drives, which help choose the game, various handicaps for the speed runners, or modes. To hit their projected times, they will need to be skilled, crafty, and pull out every glitch, trick, and shortcut that they know.
If you would like a breakdown of the marathon so far, you can check out the
tracked statistics. The streamed gameplay may teach you a few tricks of the trade, but if nothing else it’s a chance to watch some great games being played and an opportunity to help a good cause out. Head over to
Speed Demos Archive to check out the stream and other details regarding the marathon.
