The biggest DotA 2 event of the competitive calendar, The International 5, will take place in August.
A blog post revealed some bare bones information about the event, so that players and fans can start preparing their schedules, training routines, and travel plans. The International 5 will be held in Seattle from 3-8 August.
The Main Event will feature 16 teams and will run for 6 days. It looks as though all 16 teams will get to participate in the Main Event with the results of the preliminary groupstage dictating the knock out brackets. This is in stark contrast to last year’s event where eight teams were eliminated before making it to the main event, thus denying fans to see them compete on the biggest stage.
These teams will duke it out for an as-yet-undisclosed prize pool, but given the tournament’s track record, we assume it will be pretty substantial. Last year’s winners, NewBee, walked away with a prize of more than $5 million, the largest in eSports history.
Team invitations for the tournament will occur shortly after May 1st, according to the blog post.
