The mind behind Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, Fumito Ueda, has confirmed that The Last Guardian will be released this year.
"Why is this big news?," you may ask. Well, The Last Guardian has been in development since 2007, and a series of delays and complications have cast doubt over its continued development. The title was intended to be a PlayStation 3 exclusive, and was scheduled for release in 2011, but has since migrated over to the PlayStation 4.
In an interview with Edge, Ueda said that "this is the year we will see the game's release." He added, "I do have some worries, but I'm also very excited." That's understandable after this many years of development.
The Last Guardian will see players assume the role of a young boy who is trying to escape what looks like the ruins of a large castle. Along the way, he'll befriend a giant feathered creature and the pair will attempt to evade guards and navigate the environment on their bid for freedom.
Sony has confirmed that The Last Guardian will be released in 2016, but that's as concrete a release date as it's getting for the moment. More may be shared at E3.
