A
Minecraft player by the pseudonym
lentebriesje is painstakingly recreating the Earth in a 1:1500 scale model that is playable. Maps of
Europe,
North America,
South America, and
Australia have been completed and are available to download. Lentebriesje has also included a list of coordinates so that players can find the approximate position of their home town. The various pieces can be downloaded individually and then put together. Lentebriesje said that the Earth will be released in full when the map is completed. Asia and Middle East are yet to be completed, but those interested are asked to stay tuned to
lentebriesje’s blog for future updates.
The maps have been put together using the WorldPainter tool, which is an interactive graphical map generator. Lentebriesje uses government or institution maps with information about “biomes, vegetation, soil,” and so on, which then allows him to paint the terrain accordingly. He added that if there is any doubt about a particular area he uses Google Maps and takes a look at tourists’ photos.
For more information about the project, take a look at
lentebriesje’s blog. Links to download the maps are available from the various continent forum topics along with the list of relevant coordinates. World domination has never been so easy, and now we can build landmarks in whatever country we wish.
