On July 1, Daybreak Games shut down PlanetSide’s servers for good, and it did so in the best way possible.
MMORPG.com’s Steven Messner was there to witness and capture the world’s final moments as meteors rained down from the sky. They wiped all life from the planet, leaving players without a respawn point, and then their connection was simply lost.
PlanetSide was originally launched in 2003 and went free-to-play in 2014. It was followed up by PlanetSide 2 in 2012.
If only all server cuts were so dramatic; people may not be as unhappy about a classic FIFA being unplayable online if they got to witness a meteor shower during an El Classico matchup.
