Videogame Kickstarter campaigns made a whopping $46 million in 2015.
The charge was lead by Shenmue 3, which received $6.3 million in pledges, followed by Bloodstained, which finished up with $5.5 million.
Before you jump to the conclusion that Kickstarter means guaranteed success or millions, it should be noted that just 374 videogame campaigns were fully funded.
Videogames are included in the broader games category, which pulled in more than $144 million. That nearly doubles 2014's figures. 7,466 campaigns launched across the whole games section and around 30% of these were successful.
Don't expect to see the end of Kickstarter campaigns any time soon. But if you are backing something on Kickstarter, remember that there is an element of risk attached to your backing, that plans can change, and you may have to resolve to only backing projects whose creators have a solid track record behind them.
