Borderlands is a game series that has really grown with each new entry - the leap from the first to the second game was incredible in terms of gameplay and fun factor and Gearbox also spent a commendably amount of time supporting the game with DLC for over a year after release.
There's probably another full fat Borderlands title on the way but in the meantime fans are going to be well served by an adventure style new story coming from Telltale Games titled Tales from the Borderlandslater in 2014 as well as another first person offering in the form of Borderlands: The Pre Sequel.
That title naturally reeks of the self-aware humour that the series has become known for but also makes sense in terms of the chronology - this new game will be a direct prequel to Borderlands 2 but take place after the first Borderlands.
The story returns to the hilarious (and terrifying) character of Handsome Jack who is trying to escape his exile on the Hyperion moonbase before claiming it for himself. The players will start out working with him before the story shows how be became the psycho you see in Borderlands 2.
Here's 15 mins of gameplay footage with Gearbox's James Lopez and 2K Australia's Joel Eschler - they're the company responsible for development this time around.
Two words - playable Claptrap!
This really looks like more of the same which won't be a problem for fans and will keep things ticking over nicely until we get wind of more Borderlands titles in the near future.
What do you think?
Borderlands: The Pre Sequel is coming to Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in late 2014.
