Assassin's Creed Rogue is pretty new for us - with an official annoucement only happening a couple of weeks ago. But with the release date rapidly approaching, its time to get eveyone up to date.
You'll play an Irish chap called Cormac who wanders North America in the 1700's. He starts out with the Assassin's but some terrible event makes him side with the Templars and hunt down his former comrades. Thats going to be traumatic. On the surface, it looks like a cross between ACIII's wilderness settings and ACIV Black Flag's naval stuff and the timeline also exists between those two stories. Expect some crossover during the narrative.
We've got our first look at proper gameplay from Rogue straight from Gamescom and there's plenty to see and like, despite the fact that these Ubi videos are always narrated in a very dry fashion and the dude often talks about events before they happen.
There's a look at the naval combat aboard your ship The Morrigan, which is much faster than the Jackdaw and has some fantastic looking new weapons. Cormac is out to liberate a fort by killing the Assassins commander but first he takes out some poison barrels which he can use against his enemies.
He has a serious arsenal this time (explained by the Templars having more money and better stuff) including a grenade launcher and all manner of darts which he uses judiciously in this playthough. Check it out.
There's some great stuff here, a sure sign that this isn't just a cut rate AC title. I love the idea of stealthy characters hiding out to ambush you (so long as it doesn't become massively frustrating) and having enemies that are a bit smarter and more deadly. Though this player sometimes looks like he's never played one of these games before.
Assassin's Creed Rogue is on PS3 and Xbox 360 on November 11th 2014.
