Windows usernames causing GTA V PC install issues

If your Windows username contains non-alphanumeric characters, you may run into some issues when installing Grand Theft Auto V on PC.

PC players are getting an error message that tells says,“The Rockstar update service is unavailable (code 1)”,or the game hangs while trying to download the update.Rockstar says it is working on a fix. But until one is released, you may have issues connecting to the update service. There is a workaround; you can create a new Administrator User Account that only includes letters A to Z, or numbers 0-9. Simply renaming your current User Account will not correct this issue.

The developer says it will release updates when it has more information to share, including expected timing of a fix. What’s unclear is if players will be able to transfer progress from their newly created account to their own profile. However, Rockstar will update players as soon as possible.

For more information about creating a new Administrator account, visit Microsoft’s website: Windows 8/8.1, Windows 7, Windows Vista.
