The March issue of Gameinformer
got the scoop on CD Projekt Red
’s highly anticipated wench-bedding, arm-wrestling, monster-hunting action RPG.
Scheduled for the 2014 release window, ‘Wild Hunt’
(a phantasmal, spectral group of huntsmen which actually originated in European folklore) is expected for PC and “all high end platforms available.”
Because who knows what we’ll be gaming on next year... PS4? Xbox 720?? Steambox 956,301???Wild Hunt
will also debut the much publicized REDEngine 3
. Remember, Cyberpunk 2077
is a while off yet. Apparently REDEngine3
comes with improved tools for "spanning truly nonlinear stories that are based on real player choices and consequences".
Now while I’m pretty sure this sentence, and its ilk, has been bandied about so many times its lost all meaning. But CD Projekt RED
usually churn out the goods, so we’re optimistic on this front.
They also claim loading screens will be rarer than dragon scales in Witcher 3
. No casual claim, given they intend to couple this with an open game world 30 times the size of its predecessor. Larger indeed than the great Skyrim
It’ll be well impressive, IF
they can manage this. Bear in mind, Skyrim was 35% loading screen...Geralt of Rivia
, the titular Witcher
and chopper of myriad nasties, returns as “a tired hero who wants to set things right but can't put down his swords until his conscience allows - if it ever does".
Please do not panic...If Assassins of Kings
has taught us anything it’s that players won’t have to suffer through 40+ hours of whinging protagonists bemoaning their strife.Geralt
just gets it done. No complaining, no nagging.
Finally, (and in my opinion, to its eternal credit
) The Witcher 2
was an RPG focused on narrative, on delivering an emotive and affecting tale. But obviously there are some drawbacks to this approach, drawbacks studio head Adam Badowski
is keen to rectify..."If we look at RPGs nowadays we find two approaches, one which emphasizes the story but limits the game world and one that builds a vast open-world but hampers and simplifies the story. With the REDengine 3 we combine the positive aspects of both approaches for the first time, creating an open environment with a complex, multi-thread story."

returns to chase the Wild Hunt
