X FACTOR judge Louis Walsh has tipped goal king Robbie Keane to rocket to No1 in the charts with a new soccer anthem to take Ireland to Euro 2012. The musical prowess of Robbie (31) — famous for his pub singing — was revealed yesterday by his pop guru pal as Ireland clinched qualification.
Louis (57) said: “Robbie is a great singer. He sang to me and [his wife] Claudine in the [X Factor] dressing room. He sang Westlife songs in perfect tune. I said: ‘Why not do a full song with the team?’ I think they should do it. I think maybe Phil Coulter could write it. Something saying: ‘We’re going to have a great night tonight’ [like the Black Eyed Peas’ song I Gotta Feeling]. I think it would be No1 for months.”
The idea was backed yesterday on RTE 2fm by Italia ’90 songsmiths like Put ’Em Under Pressure producer Dave Pennefeather and Give It A Lash Jack writer Liam Harrison. Team captain Robbie last month rocked fans with a rendition of Garth Brooks’ country music hit If Tomorrow Never Comes some 48 hours before Ireland’squalifier against Armenia in Dublin.
